Garden extension with sliding doors and casement windows as seen from the garden

Perfect large pane sliding doors for modern extension

SL700 sliding doors and SL68 windows for contemporary design

The modern extension for this detached home in Berkshire delivers new light and open living spaces. Its owners now enjoy a dining area, bespoke kitchen with breakfast bar and informal seating, all with uninterrupted sightlines to the garden.

The glazed structure, supported by a steel frame that’s neatly concealed by aluminium pressings, is the perfect design solution for an indoor-outdoor lifestyle.

Sets of two and three panel floor-to-ceiling SL700 sliding glass doors with heights of 2477mm and visible frames of only 25mm wrap around this new space, providing in total over 15 metres of glass to maximise light and views.

Our homeowners chose the ODC SL700 sliding system for its large pane size (up to 4 metres by 4 metres) and ultra-slim frames, but it also has energy-saving features which give their single story extension a high degree of insulation, weather resistance and acoustic protection.

Each set of doors opens effortlessly on stainless steel low-noise tracks despite each panel weighing up to 350 kgs. Handles are discreetly integral to the frame, a SL700 design feature our clients particularly liked.

The extension’s flat roof has a large central frameless glass rooflight over 4 metres in length. It’s positioned to flood the kitchen island and breakfast bar below with natural light, even on a rainy autumn day.

A fifth set of sliding doors opens up the home’s original living room to garden views all year round; SL320 doors were specified to suit its smaller dimensions.

SL68 slimline aluminium windows finished in Anthracite Grey inside and out provide a complete glazing solution for this project; these are ODC custom-made casement windows with the same high degree of performance for bedrooms and bathrooms.

An ODC front door provides matching design, robust security features and excellent thermal performance.  Like our sliding doors and the front entrance fixed windows, the door was made to measure at our Poole factory

Our customers explain how they researched the right glazing for their project

“We liked the size of the SL700 particularly because we were looking to increase the door height above conventional ones as well as the width. What we had seen with some doors was that they had very substantial handles that detracted from the effect that you were creating visually. The 700 handles were minimal and didn’t overpower in any way and that appealed to us.”
