Glass Wall Sliding Doors for Ultimate Pavilion Style
Like many pavilion-style houses, this new home has a distinctive box-like, linear shape. A mono-pitched single sloping roof extends beyond the walls and, protected by the large over-hangs, are floor to ceiling glass walls or glass curtain walls which capture a wealth of natural light. Its minimal profile is very different from the more typical Edwardian homes or villas in the neighbourhood.
The living area is open-plan with a spacious, airy and luxurious feel. The glass walls create uninterrupted sightlines and movement through to outdoor spaces. Patio, balconies and gardens are all accessed by sliding glass doors, making indoor/outdoor living so easy.
The colour palette is neutral and subtle. Natural cedar cladding and grey render is used for the exterior facades and on the inside, black, white and grey fixtures and fittings make this a cool, restful space. The eye is drawn instead to the colour and texture of tropical house plants, sweeping lawns and exotic tree ferns.
Slimline Sliding Doors
Specified for this project were the ODC SL700 slimline sliding systems. These minimalist moveable floor-to-ceiling glass walls have ultra-slim frames and can be specified with panels up to 4 metres by 4 metres. Panels glide on stainless steel tracks, and here are installed with flush thresholds to achieve the minimal aesthetic appropriate to the pavilion style of architecture. ODC frameless glass balustrading on the upper floor ensures uninterrupted views and light.
Bespoke Windows
Where light was needed but floor to ceiling glass wall installation wasn’t practical, windows with the same frame profiles and high thermal and weather perfomance as the SL700 were specified for a complete new build glazing package. Fixed windows offer framed views and Tilt & Turn designs have versatility to ventilate while maintaining security.
Black powder coating finish
Sliding doors and window frames are finished in a standard polyester matt black powder coating. As well as giving it the classic mid-century look made popular by the pavilion architectural style, it offers long term protection against water and UV. Powder coated aluminium doors and windows are also extremely low maintenance and easy to clean.
