Perfect panoramic sliding door design for inside outside living with wide open access to patio

Extra-wide sliding doors for that inside-outside feel

Extra-wide sliding doors for that inside-outside feel

This property sits on a large rural site within sight of the ancient Ridgeway and is surrounded by nature. While the road-facing elevation has discreet and minimal window openings for privacy, the south-facing elevation is a wall of glass, created by panoramic sliding doors and large full-height fixed windows.

From the living areas and bedrooms, terraces and balconies the owners enjoy watching the deer, wild hare and red kites that live on their land. The glazing design they have chosen allows them to connect with the natural world around them. Why go anywhere else on holiday when you have a view like this, they say!

How to choose a glazing company when starting a building project for the first time?

Our clients acknowledged that they had no experience of architectural glazing companies and were not sure how to find the right company for their ambitious project. Having looked at some large national suppliers, they asked their architect for recommendations, and visited ODC Glass in Poole.

In search of extra-wide sliding doors

Once they had looked at the ODC SL700 slim frame sliding doors on display in the showroom, they knew they had found the the perfect design. Each individual panel can be specified with dimensions up to 4000mm(W) x 4000mm(H). Choosing the ODC SL700 means their living area has a stunning four panel system, with each enormous 3.5 metre wide panel moveable on tracks in both directions.

“Only a few companies can make the large panels we wanted.”

Why solar control for south-facing rooms?

Our clients didn’t want their amazing view encumbered by blinds or curtains. The option to specify solar control for these rooms means they can see and feel  their connection with nature in all seasons and all times of the day. To avoid over-heating and UV damage to flooring and furnishings, large windows on the south-facing elevation were given a solar control coating.

How to approach an extensive glazing project

Our clients were glad to have chosen a UK glazing supplier who manufactures a wide range of products for their build. Dealing with one company and one team made their complex order easier to project manage.

“They can do everything. It makes the process easier.”

They advise anyone starting a build project for the first time, “Collaboration is essential. You need to work together to get solutions and have open channels of communication.” There were setbacks on this installation, but they felt it’s how the company responds that’s important.

“We got it right in the end, and we chose the right company to work with.”
