The wintergarden was designed to fit into the dead space of the side return, allowing the garden to be visible from the lounge
The client’s home is a new build property in Stoke Mandeville, with a lovely garden in an unusually large plot for a new build. However, the layout of the house meant that the garden was not visible from the lounge. The brief was to connect the house to the garden but not compromise the light going into the lounge and to give the house a more individual and interesting appearance.
We designed a wintergarden to fit into the dead space of the side return, which extended the lounge to the back of the house so that in the summer the doors can be fully open to flow into the garden and in the winter the clients can sit by the garden protected from the elements and enjoy the low sun, the rain and even the snow! The bifold doors and roof of the wintergarden are higher than a standard modern room, which adds to the feeling of space and the half-glazed side elevation separates the property from the neighbours, while retaining a light airy feel. The finishing touch was an ODC 6000 awning with integrated lighting which prolongs the clients’ enjoyment of their space.
