New house in rural setting with aluminium windows and doors

Bespoke aluminium window design for Dorset self build

Aluminium window design for unique self build

Our self-build clients acquired a large rural plot with stunning views of rolling Dorset countryside and planned a large slate, stone and timber-clad home with expansive openings on both levels.  Their glazing package was extensive; in all we designed and supplied 35 bespoke aluminium windows and doors to ensure the views they loved were visible from every room.

Custom-made aluminium window design

The wow factor in this glazing design has to be the double height gable glass wall with integrated sliding doors and casement window for the main bedroom. It’s a modular construction that showcases how versatile aluminium window design can be for unique homes.

Fixed windows increase light levels on the upper floor and landing and create a delightful guest bedroom picture window seat. The long windows in the bedroom, featuring a fixed lower panel and a top hung casement window, is another custom design achieved in consultation with the clients.

Bifolds or sliding doors, or both?

Our clients have the best of both worlds – bifolds at each end of their open plan ground floor for complete inside/out living, and large pane sliding systems to endure uninterrupted views. It’s a discussion we have with many clients when they visit our showrooms. Read how one customer explained her choice.

Why ‘Lift and Slide’ sliding doors?

The large ODC 300+ Patio sliding doors  have exceptional weather performance and their huge sliding panels are combined with fixed panels to create glass walls. It’s a system designed for the most exposed locations with superb thermal efficiency and the highest security specifications in the ODC range. The  ‘lift and slide’ mechanismm is very easy to operate; panels open effortlessly and smoothly with minimum applied pressure, as you can see in the video.

Choosing Anthracite Grey for all windows and doors

All windows, sliding and bifold door frames are finished in the same standard Anthracite Grey inside and out. It’s a popular option for many clients, and here delivers a sleek, modern but muted colour that complements the range of natural cladding materials. Neutral, versatile and enduring, it’s a practical choice for a large family home like this.

Security for country homes

All our aluminium doors and windows have robust security features and can be specified to PAS24 standards. The ODC300 sliding doors are a popular choice for homeowners with houses in rural settings. You can find out more about sliding doors and home security in this short article.
